Responsible for developing tooling concepts and specifications, managing the tooling design and build process, insuring process and final product specifications are achieved, providing engineering and tooling support to the product development teams, CFT’s and manufacturing plants as required.

Your responsibilities

  • Design concepts and develop specifications for prototype and production tooling, including secondary equipment, assembly equipment, and check fixtures
  • Develop and maintain design standards and coordinate with Purchasing on tooling contracts
  • Participate and support costing and RFQ process with Costing, Purchasing and Program
  • Management Departments including tooling matrix responsibility
  • Manage the tooling design and build process, insuring cross-functional team engagement during all phases of program launch/development.
  • Assume responsibility for program tool costs and budgets
  • Ensure all manufacturing process and final product specifications are achieved with all primary and secondary tooling.
  • Support management of engineering changes with program management and drive continuous improvements with all aspects of tooling including suppliers
  • Attend product development and CFT meetings and interface/support Product and Manufacturing Engineering, Program Management, Manufacturing and CBU’s in regards to product and tooling requirements.
  • Provide pre-production and production troubleshooting support for all tooling and secondary part processing/finishing equipment
  • Ensure compliance with all related IATF16949, QS 9000 and ISO 14001 procedures and requirements
  • Willing and able to travel as required to manufacturing plants and tool shops to support assigned programs
  • Conduct business in a professional manner and follow all company policies and procedures
  • Share best practices and conduct training when required to transfer knowledge
  • Senior level: Provide deeper product and process expertise, mentoring, and leadership to peers and assigned subordinates
  • Expedite special assignments as directed by management    

Your qualifications

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering, related technical degree, or 15+ years experience in tooling engineering/fabrication or manufacturing engineering
  • Must be familiar with automotive related component drawings and math data files
  • Must have 1-5 years (senior level 7-10 years, with international tool source management) experience with compression molding, tool design, cost estimation, project management and tool construction.
  • Must have a solid understanding of the manufacturing process and hands-on experience


Language Ability

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required
  • Ability to present information and status to groups of employees or management


Math and Technical Ability

  • Strong math, engineering, blueprint, technical documentation and CAD skills are required to handle calculations and problem solving


Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to define and solve problems and draw valid conclusions from data and testing
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions, blueprints, and abstract and concrete variables


Computer Skills

  • MS Office: Word, Excel, Project, AutoCAD, Visview or other commercially available CAD viewing software




Ability to travel up to 75% is required. Some international travel may be required to support tool fabrication or corporate tooling/manufacturing initiatives.
