The Materials Development Engineer is responsible for delivering effective and economically viable materials and process solutions enabling the manufacture of products that are consistent with the company’s strategic goals and objectives.

The Materials Development Engineer is responsible for identifying the project scope, planning activities and resources, and leading the effective execution of the assigned projects within the team. A part of the activities consists in introduction of global material solutions, and execution of cost optimization projects in close collaboration with production units, utilizing the team network and geographic location opportunities.

 


Materials Development Engineer

United States - Bloomsburg 

The Materials Development Engineer responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate engineering efforts in North American production facilities and coordinate all necessary supporting efforts to execute assigned projects within the company.

  • Manage projects, following the defined gate process and defining project scope, identifying necessary external and internal resources and supports, and ensuring the effective execution within the defined timeframe.

  • Benchmark existing process and products to ensure optimal technology in the development of new products.

  • Lead the successful transition of some of the newly developed product technology from the R&T group based in Winterthur, to North American regionalized development activities by developing detailed material and process specifications (Raw Material Specifications, TDS, Process settings, etc.), supporting regionalized material selection and sourcing and by coordinating trials to insure the successful implementation of new technologies in our manufacturing facilities.

  • Organize activities to generate relevant material and process data. Provide input to product engineering and manufacturing to optimize equipment specifications and product manufacturing feasibility.

  • Work to develop concurrence between Manufacturing, Tooling, Purchasing, Program Management and our manufacturing facilities on current or new processes, work cell improvements, and tooling construction.

  • Ensure that the specified materials are compatible with the desired processing methods. Specify process parameters and functionality of required manufacturing equipment.
  • Ensure that the material and process development team is trained to release new material in accordance with IMDS, GADSL, Material safety regulation, Global and local material regulations.

  • Support the team in developing and conducting specific bench top / lab development using internal and external resources to prove out material and process concepts. Ensure prototyping protocols and results are collected together with necessary material traceability.

  • Other duties as assigned.

The qualified candidate will have:

  • Master of Science in Engineering or Chemical engineering or Organic Chemistry from an accredited institution or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years previous experience in managing a pool of engineers in manufacturing engineering, product development and/or systems engineering.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical communications and blueprints.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and other internal/external customers.

  • Skilled in advanced mathematics and statistics.

  • Skilled in project management across complex organizations.

  • Must be able to reason and solve problems based on technical understanding of needs and procedures. 

  • Skilled in all Microsoft Office products.
